Scrip Card

 

Scrip is a great way to make money for your student’s individual Lakota West Band account. The money earned in this account can be used to pay for band fees, uniforms, band trips, etc.

 

What is Scrip?

Scrip is simply a word that means “Gift Cards” from national and local retailers. They are the same gift certificates that you buy at the store. The Scrip participating retailers agree to sell gift certificates to non-profit organizations at a discount price. Families, like yours, buy the certificates for full face value and they redeem them for full face value, while the “selling” student gets the difference as revenue, which is deposited into their student band account. The percentages vary by retailer.

For example, if you purchase an Applebee’s $25 gift card. You will receive a gift card with a $25 value plus 8% ($2.00), therefore your student will receive $2.00 deposited into their student account. Then, if you purchase a Uno’s gift card for $25 plus 12%, another $3.00 is added to your account. It will add up quickly. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, gas, dining out, and essentials and with every purchase earn revenue for your child’s band expenses.

Which Merchants?
Most popular retailers participate in the scrip program including Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Applebee’s, Panera, Speedway plus many others. If you would like to get more information about scrip, you can visit their website at www.glscrip.com.

How do I get started?

• Send an e-mail message at Barbara.stiftar@fuse.net with the student’s name, grade, phone number and band group they are involved in (Marching Band, Guard, Winds, Jazz, etc). We will send out a new updated Excel spreadsheet at the beginning of each month, listing the current merchants and percentages as the list & percentages change frequently.
• Give copies of the order form to family, friends and co-workers. Don’t feel like you are asking for one more thing. This is one fundraiser that they get to choose what they use and they get 100% of their money back.
• Retrieve all the orders and payments. Combine the orders on one order form.
• Save the combined spreadsheet and e-mail back to me at Barbara.stiftar@fuse.net by the 15th of the month. Please include Student name, grade, Ph. #. E-mail, band group on form.
• All payments need to be received by the 15th of the month. Make checks payable to Lakota West Upbeat Club. You can mail the payment to me, drop off at my house, or can deliver to Beth Lee’s or Trina Moore’s home. After the checks have cleared, the orders will be placed. There is a $1 shipping/handling fee taken from each order to cover the cost of shipping.
• We will send out an e-mail after the orders have been sorted so you can pick them up.
