Lakota Ridge Band Program

The Lakota Ridge band program consists of 160 7th grade students divided into three separate band classes. There are 125 8th grade students in two band classes. Ridge also has 37 students in 8th grade jazz band during the first semester and 36 students in 7th grade jazz band during the second semester.  All bands meet five days a week and are directed by Mrs. Sherri Voytek and Mr. Brian Botdorf.

Mr. Brian Botdorf received a bachelor of music degree from Bowling Green State University and a master of education degree from Ashland University. He started at Lakota Schools (East) in the Fall of 2001 and has been at Ridge since the Fall of 2003. He works with the Ridge concert bands and jazz bands; assists with the Lakota West Marching Firebirds; and directs the all-Lakota trombone ensemble. Previous teaching experience in Ohio includes Clearview Local Schools, North Baltimore Local Schools, and Willard City Schools. Mr. Botdorf teaches private trombone, baritone and tuba lessons in the evenings. He is also active in the West Chester Church of the Nazarene's contemporary combo "Awaken". He lives in West Chester with his wife, Susan.

Mrs. Sherri Voytek earned a bachelor of music degree from Ohio University. She is in her 5th year at Lakota Ridge, where she enjoys teaching the 7th and 8th grade concert bands and 7th grade general music. Mrs. Voytek also assists with the Lakota West Marching Firebirds. Previously, Mrs. Voytek served as the high school band director at West Carrollton High School. In addition, she has taught at Buckeye Local Schools in Ashtabula, Ohio and Fort Frye Local Schools in Beverly, Ohio. Throughout her career, Mrs. Voytek has maintained an active flute studio. Mrs. Voytek lives in Centerville with her husband Michael, also a band director, and their dogs, Riff and Tucker.
