Hello from Plains.
Phil Chumley, band director at Lakota Plains, is hosting the OMEA Junior High Large Group Adjudicated Event this year. Due to several serious scheduling issues, we have consolidated the event onto Friday evening, May 7, 2010 and nothing will occur on Saturday, May 8 (for the bands). In order to make this happen, we have to run 2 stages. We will be having 8 groups perform at Lakota East High School and 8 groups perform at Lakota East Freshman School. This has created quite the need for volunteers. Here’s a rough idea of what is needed:
2 adults in the office
2 adults to handle concessions
2 announcers
2-4 stage crew helpers
The rest will be kids.
We need lots of helpers, but only for a reasonably brief period of time. We need people from about 4:00 until 9:00 on Friday and we’re done.
If you can help, contact Mr. Chumley at phillip.chumley@lakotaonline.com.
Thank you!
"We’re off to a great start having completed another successful candy sale. Our 7th grade clarinets spent the week “over the break” and we’re ready for some really challenging music. The 7th grade bands graphing assignment is due on Monday, Oct 12, 2009. Our 8th grade band has been exploring the sounds of Russia with “Moscow 1941”. Both 7th and 8th Grade Band members have their next practice record due on Monday, October 19, 2009. AND our 8th Grade Jazz Band has been exploring many different genre of jazz and is really rockin’, playing the music of Chuck Mangione (The Land of Make Believe), Louis Prima (Jump, Jive, and Wail), Dizzy Gillespie (A Night In Tunisia), Herbie Hancock (Chameleon), Spencer Williams (Basin Street Blues), and Ray Charles (What’d I Say). As you can tell, we’re having a great year and we’re looking forward to performing in public soon. Keep practicing!!! Mr. Chumley and Mr. Goslee.”
