  • Music - Two judges rating only the musical aspects of the group.

  • Marching and Maneuvering - One judge, Marching and Maneuvering Execution, rating the precision of movement of the entire group and one judge, Marching and Maneuvering General Effect, rating how the members move within the overall picture and development of form.

  • General Effect - Two judges rating the band on the entire show package including music, marching, auxiliary and percussion contribution.

  • Percussion - One judge (also on the field) rating the direction of the band by the field commander, 1995 rule change states that this caption does not have to be adjudicated but can be if the local contest chooses.

  • Field Commander - One judge (also on the field) rating the direction of the band by the field commander(s). 1995 rule change states that this caption does not have to be adjudicated but can be if the local contest chooses.

  • Auxiliaries - Two judges rating the entire auxiliary unit.  Judges rate the writing of routine, the cleanliness of the work done by the group and their placement on the field.

TIMING:

The show time must be a minimum of seven minutes, while not exceeding a maximum of eleven minutes. Show begins with the first note of music and ends at the last musical sound.  Bands must have their show completed in thirteen minutes, which includes preplacement and warm-up.

RATINGS AND SCORING - State Finals Qualifying ratings are determined as follows:

The ratings of the two Music, two Marching and Maneuvering, and the two General Effect judges' evaluation are used to determine the final rating of the band. In addition, the percussion judge and each music judge rates each percussion section and combine their scores. The ratings of these seven judges are converted to a final rating by using the following chart:

I Superior 7-10 total points
II Excellent 11-17 total points
III Good 18-24 total points
IV Fair 25-31 total points
V Poor 32-35 total points

Note:  If a group accumulates more than 15 points in penalties, the rating will be lowered one rating.
