Experience. Mr. Carr comes to Lakota after directing the New Richmond High School Band for five years. New Richmond's band showed great improvement during Mr. Carr's tenure as director. The concert band earned superior and excellent ratings in concert band, multiple superiors in solo and ensemble and nearly doubled the amount of public performances given each year. The marching band was winner of the IGA Greatest Band in the Land twice, performed with the University of Cincinnati and Miami University bands, and performed on television as Band of the Week on Channel 12 during the 2007 season. Mr. Carr started a successful jazz ensemble at the school that performed numerous times.
Mr. Carr has extensive marching experience. He marched with Lakota, Lakota West, and Miami University while attending school. He also has a DCI world championship earned with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps during the 2000 season. Mr. Carr was a brass and visual staff member with Kettering Fairmont's marching band for five years.
Performances. Mr. Carr's bands at New Richmond High School consistently earned superior and excellent ratings at OMEA District and State Adjudicated events. The marching band earned excellent ratings in OMEA competitions and gave numerous performances for local and community events.
Mr. Carr has taken three trips to Europe and Russia on choral tours. During one of these trips he sang in St. Peter's Basilica for Pope John Paul II. Mr. Carr has had the good fortune to perform with or under the direction of many well known artists. Gunther Schuller, Fredrick Fennell, Jeff Folkens, Scott Belk, Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, A. R. Rahman to name a few. Mr. Carr remains an active trumpet player, having performing with many professional and non-professional groups. He currently plays regularly in the Emerald City Jazz Orchestra and often performs for theatrical musicals locally.
Education. Mr. Carr is a 1998 graduate of Lakota West High School, the schools' inaugural year. Mr. Carr holds a Bachelor's Degree in music education from Miami University. He student taught at Kettering Fairmont High School. Mr. Carr is currently working on his Masters of Music degree at Miami University during the summers.
Professional Activity. Mr. Carr is an active member in Ohio Music Education Association, he has regularly attending OMEA contests and events and was the host of middle school contest at New Richmond High School. He is also a member International Trumpet Guild, and MENC.
